DAY TRIP
Erin O’Donohue
3 May – 28 August 2024
Erin O’Donohue is an artist and curator living and working on Kaurna Country. Erin’s practice focuses on capturing the unique beauty and personalities of buildings. Her solo exhibition, DAY TRIP, featured work inspired by ‘day trips’ over the past 8 months. Erin gravitated toward idyllic, quirky, or rustic older buildings and landscapes where the lamination of time is visible and can be dissected. Her preference lies with watercolour as a medium, appreciating its translucent and layered qualities for precisely the same reason. Drawn to the medium’s dreamlike qualities, they help her accurately express how she views and experiences the world, inviting viewers to share her lens and subsequently, her adventure.
‘In 2022 I was injured at work and am unfortunately still going through a recovery process. As I started regaining control over my hand, I was eager to start creating again. Painting works for this exhibition has helped re-tune my fine motor skills and boosted my mood and confidence during a difficult time.’
