In this body of work Paddy investigated the urban environment of the local government area of the City of Playford.
His process has been to explore by slowly walking and observing the urban landscape. By deliberately slowing down and remaining present he attempts to capture the essence of Place in his paintings.
Connection to place is considered an important Social Determinant of Health. Depictions of iconic and familiar locations can help to maintain and strengthen this connection when we are physically absent.
Paddy’s paintings with their use of a bright colour palette can evoke an emotional response in the viewer by eliciting feelings of familiarity and belonging.
Having previously worked in the public health system as a Physiotherapist Paddy appreciates that the visual environment plays an important role in fostering good health outcomes. This is true for patients, staff and visitors. He feels privileged to have presented this body of work in the hope it contributed to the visual landscape.
