Artist statement
I was brought up in a mission home and at the age of thirteen I was adopted by a caring couple. Although my parents were good to me, I wandered through life without direction. I served in Vietnam and the effects of those experiences still play a major part in my life today.
Years later, I was contacted by my biological family which changed my outlook on life dramatically. I then understood more about myself as the family I was separated from were Ngarrindjeri.
While travelling in the outback of the Northern Territory, I was fortunate enough to sleep on the top of Uluru and was amazed at the many vibrant colours of the land and stars, particularly the Milky Way. This has influenced the style and colours of my artwork.
Relaxation and the sharing of my art gives me satisfaction and meaning to my life. These are some of the reasons why I love to paint.
Painting connects me to my ancestors and heals my soul.
