This series celebrates the joy of nature and connecting with the natural world. Made in both South Australia and Tasmania, the work is playful and cheeky. The characters are of my own creation and cavort in childlike ways through the landscape, asking the viewer to take a moment in the sharing of fantastical space.

Artist Biography

Emiko Artemis is a South Australian based visual artist working across media. Emiko uses costumes and masking in their work to create immersive environments that question our place today’s fast paced world. They are interested in ideas of mysticism, storytelling and ritual and often uses the natural world to create narrations of disorder and unease. Their work is informed by theories of phenomenology and exploring the liminal space of interior and exterior worlds is an ongoing motivation for their work. Emiko has post graduate studies in arts and theory and intersperses their visual arts practice with community arts work. Emiko has presented their work nationally and has participated in several seminars and interviews about her practice and research. Emiko is a proud and active member of both the disability arts and LGBTIQ communities.

This exhibition is presented as part of SALA Festival 2023.
