The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Creative Health is excited to be teaming up once again for a special exhibition in collaboration with global law firm Dentons.
The biennial exhibition is back for a very special showcase of how the arts and health sectors can go hand in hand.
Curated by our senior curator Fiona Borthwick, the exhibition explores the transformative power of art in enhancing health and wellbeing.
Fi said this year’s theme is ‘Axiogenesis: Failure and other lies’, a metaphysical theory that reality is the way that it is because it’s for the best.
“Axiogenesis explores the concept of optimalism, a wellbeing strategy for healthy thinking,” she said.
“It’s about being adaptable, open-minded and embracing the challenges and failures as an opportunity to learn and to grow.”
‘Axiogenesis: Failure and other lies’ is an opportunity for us to exhibit unique and eclectic artworks that we can’t otherwise display in our hospital galleries, but still connecting to the core principles which underpin our programs.
We’re proud to be exhibiting five of Australia’s most exciting young artists and creatives: Adelaide’s Zaachariaha Fielding, Seirian Kitchener and Ashleigh Keller; Sydney’s Min Wong; and Samuel Leighton-Dore from the Gold Coast.
Zaachariaha is a multi-disciplinary artist from the APY Lands, perhaps best known as the frontman of critically acclaimed electronic music duo Electric Fields, and a former Ramsay Art Prize winner.
Min has participated in international residencies in Spain, China and Los Angeles, and uses sculpture to explore the metaphysical, spirituality and self-help culture.
Based on the Gold Coast, Samuel is a screenwriter, director and interdisciplinary visual artist using ceramics to explore his own experiences with mental health and human connection.
Seirian and Ashleigh are both emerging artists out of Adelaide. Seirian blends oil painting, realism and self-portraiture to explore her own internal experiences, while Ashleigh uses ceramics to explore ideas around family, memory, and self.
The exhibition is on display at Dentons’ Gouger Street office from 24 October until 4 December and the artworks will also be up for sale, so make sure you check it out in person!
